The First School Financial Aid Trust
Honoring the Memory of Camela Markman
The
First School Financial Aid Trust is a non-profit organization.
As stated in its Mission Statement, the Trust was "created
to provide financial aid to families whose children may otherwise
be unable to attend The First School" and is "committed
to aiding students from diverse economic, ethnic, racial and social
backgrounds as well as students with special needs."
The Trust and its financial aid program are unique
among Los Angeles area preschools. The Trust makes financial aid
available to eligible students in all programs at The First School,
from Toddler Class through Pre-K. Aid is awarded in amounts up
to 98 percent of full tuition based upon assessed financial need.
The Trust's goal is to provide financial aid to 10 percent of
the school's population. Additionally, the Trust generally makes
funding available to eligible children during each year of their
participation in programs at The First School, subject to continuing
need as assessed each school year.
The First School Financial Aid Trust is administered
separately from the school's other programs. The primary source
of funding for the Trust is a parent-organized fundraising even
held each year.
Financial aid application packets are available
upon request for submission each spring. An independent organization,
Students and School Services for Financial Aid (SSS), assesses
an applicant's financial need, and financial aid allocations based
upon this assessment are made by a committee of independent consultants
to the Trust. The Trust ensures confidentiality and anonymity
for all families that apply for or receive financial aid.
