“When my husband and I decided to move our little family back to Santa Monica from the east coast, one of the most intimidating pieces was navigating the preschool transition for our then 3 year old.
During my initial research I was thrilled to discover that my beloved preschool, The First School, was alive and thriving. I reached out to Kim in the hopes of receiving some guidance. She was so wonderful and we were welcomed with open arms. My son started as soon as we arrived, attending Broadway, the exact campus that I attended almost 40 years ago.
My two siblings and I all attended the first school as did the son of our nanny thanks to the wonderful scholarship program. We all remember that time so fondly and everyone is jealous I get to hang out at The First School again.
It has been a dream reliving warm memories and watching as my two children now share those same experiences: a welcoming hug at drop off, "cooking" elaborate sand meals beneath the play structure on the yard, tape notes on shirts with important moments of the day, singing "make new friends" on the stage at Broadway. This song rings so true for us: my best friend from The First School is still my closest friend and the same is currently true for my son.
What I am most grateful for is how our wonderful teachers have met each of my children exactly where they are: celebrating their unique talents and easing their individual challenges. Now in elementary school, my son has felt so confident both socially and academically and I know we owe this to The First School. Our daughter Autumn was fortunate to attend all three campuses and is currently thriving at Pine Street in the purple group!
The First School is the kind of place that stays with you and somehow continues to nourish. We have loved being part of The First School family.”
